NRDC and Ecos Consulting assessed the approximate energy efficiency differences between laptop and desktop computers to determine how much energy the U.S. might save by switching to more efficient designs. Also discussed are ways to characterize computer efficiency on a component basis and system basis. The report concludes with recommendations for future policy and research activities.
